It wasn't long into the journey back to the herd when Mai felt major discomfort and informed the two mares she was in labor. It made Adelaide panic internally - mares did usually wander off to have their foals in peace but there was no stallion here. She had to act as their protector. The three took time to find somewhere safe for Mai and eventually stumbled upon a small cave. After thoroughly checking the cave, Adelaide deemed it safe and the two mares went in. Adelaide stood guard at the entrance to the cave, listening to Seraphina talk gently to Mai as she went through her labor. The experienced mare seemed to calm Mai well, and it was not too long later that she heard Seraphina congratulating her on a beautiful foal and she heard Mai crying softly - in what she hoped were happy tears - at her foal. The buckskin mare could still sense that there was something lingering nearby - especially with the fresh smell of blood, and kept a keen watch until she heard Seraphina call out to her.
It had been a few weeks after the herd had better collected itself and spring was finally blossoming that Aharon really felt like things were settled down. Koh's wound was no longer an oozing puss-filled mess, but the infection had definitely slowed down the healing of the older stallion and it had not yet closed. The adult members of the herd constantly went on patrol for healing herbs to stuff into the wound. Koh himself was quite and distant, very unlike the stallion that Aharon knew and had been raised by. Aharon knew the illness had taken a large toll, and that it probably exhausted him mentally as well. Still, he had become more interested in his mares and foals as time progressed, though he still spent a lot of time just grazing and healing. Aharon supposed he couldn't blame him.
